RE: Payroll bonus check not calculating federal taxes

by L Vail @ Payroll bonus check not calculating federal taxes

Hi,

If you are running a separate paycheck for this bonus, then according to the IRS, the bonus is considered 'Supplemental Wages'. As such, it should be withheld at a flat rate of 25% rather than following the same withholding rules of regular pay. If the bonus exceeds $1,000,000, a flat withholding rate of 39.7% should be used.

The FICA taxes are a fixed amount, so those would be calculated the same no matter what kind of wages you're paying.

From the IRS Publication 15:

“Supplemental wages are wage payments to an employee that aren't regular wages. They include, but aren't limited to, bonuses, commissions, overtime pay, payments for accumulated sick leave, severance pay, awards, prizes, back pay, retroactive pay increases, and payments for nondeductible moving expenses. Other payments subject to the supplemental wage rules include taxable fringe benefits and expense allowances paid under a nonaccountable plan. How you withhold on supplemental wages depends on whether the supplemental payment is identified as a separate payment from regular wages. See Regulations section 31.3402(g)-1 for additional guidance for wages paid after January 1, 2007. Also see Revenue Ruling 2008-29, 2008-24 I.R.B. 1149, available at IRS.gov/irb/2008-24_IRB/ar08.html.”

If you are running a separate check that just includes the bonus, the system is likely annualizing the bonus and calculates tax as if that were your annual pay. Quite likely no tax would be withheld on a modest bonus. Therefore, according to the IRS, you should be using the flat tax amount and not relying on the regular withholding tables.

You'll need to check your State withholding rules on supplemental wages to see how the state treats it.

If you do include the bonus with the regular pay, the withholding percentage may be much higher than 25% because of how pay is aggregated. The bonus pay plus the regular pay are added together and withholding is calculated on the annualized sum of the two.

I'm guessing you have created a separate check run including just the annual bonus.

Internal Revenue Bulletin 2008-24, mentioned above, describes nine different scenarios involving supplemental wages and how the withholding rules apply.

Kind regards,

Leslie

Reliable printing of large reports through the Web client

by Stephen Coons @ Microsoft Dynamics GP - Recent Threads

We recently upgraded from GP 2016 to GP 2016 and made the big decision to transition out entire user base (except for a very small handful) from the thick client to the web client.

The biggest issue we've run into is the printing of reports. We have users that frequently perform actions that trigger the printing of 4 or 5 reports at once, and we have check runs that are routinely 200+ pages.

I've had them try IE, Edge, Firefox, and Chrome (as well as alternate print drivers, different printers, printing to file, and printing to screen) and I just can't get the web client to handle any of these really large prints reliably.

Has anybody else faced this?

Web Management Console Not Working- 2018

Adjust Cost Utility creating duplicate trx when two receipt adjusted?

by Grady @ Microsoft Dynamics GP - Recent Threads

We ran into some questions with our auditors this year.

We have an item that has a cost of 5.69. The HITB showed the primary site as 5.69 (extended cost divided by quantity), but a secondary site was showing inflated costs of around 9.74.

When I researched I found that a split receipt issue (maybe another post; but basically if a receipt is keyed on a single line and the invoice is split with a portion of the product at zero cost, GP will update the entire receipt layer to zero cost, because it can only have one cost for the receipt), I found that the HITB included duplicated "fixes" for it.

So we have a receipt layer at primary site for zero cost and we have a transfer at secondary site for zero cost. The source of the transfer is the original zero cost receipt. It appears that Adjust Cost Utility was run on both the original receipt and the transfer. So the secondary site appears to have been updated twice.

Once when the original zero cost receipt was corrected, it rippled through to the secondary site; then a second time when the zero cost transfer was adjusted. I did not expect to see that and I plan to enter a test in a dummy company to verify, but curious if this is the case.  I expected that when the original zero cost receipt was Adjusted for the "ripple" effect to also update the zero cost Transfer. Maybe it does, but doesn't update the receipt layer exactly. So when inventory reviewed, they saw the zero cost Transfer and tried to adjust it as well?

CompatibiManagement Reporter 2012 CU16 and Dynamics GP 2018 Compatibility Issue

Dear Dynamics GP Gurus,

Is there any knowncompatibility issues between MR 2012 CU16 and Dynamics GP 2018.

I am not getting any data in the reports.  My scenario Goes like this:

Dynamics GP 2018

MR 2012 CU16

All fresh installations

While going through the initial configuration through "Configuration Console" no Databases are listed in the drop down, the error message is " an error occurred while retrieving company information".

I installed the Dexterity Shared components 16.0 from GP2016 media as a test, the configurations get completed and the companies are imported to Configuration Console successfully.  But, while on Report designer, tried to run the default Trial balance report, but no data has been pulled to the viewer.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Forum Post: RE: Reliable printing of large reports through the Web client

by Stephen Coons @ Microsoft Dynamics GP

I'm a little confused on your answer. Our web client doesn't have any option to output reports as Word files. If it did, it would save us a lot of headache. (I'm starting to fear that the consulting company that helped us deploy GP and the web client was even less familiar with the web client than they claimed, and they were up front that very few of their customers use it) The most options we get are Text, tab-delimited, csv, htm, and XML. As for the particular errors, it really varies. With a 250 page check run (which we do almost every week) it will get somewhere between 100 and 200 checks in, and then just stop printing. The driver will act as though it's done printing, and that's that. Then we have to either reprint or void and re-issue. It's also common in scenarios where an action generate multiple reports, for it to get through the first report, or the first couple of reports, and then the web client just hangs indefinitely.

Scribe RM Integration Commission Issue

by RM82 @ Microsoft Dynamics GP - Recent Threads

Hello!

We are using the GP adapter in Scribe to import Receivables Management Transactions into GP. We added the Salesperson, Commission amount and the Distributions for commission into the integration. No matter what, when we have an amount in the Commission Amount field, it gives us the following error message:

"The commission dollar amount passed does not match what is in the rm commission table - rm10501. check the following field on the rm transaction object 'commission amount'."

The Commission amount is being pushed to the RM10301 table. I looked at the RM10501 table and it is a separate commissions table that is populated when information is entered into the commissions on the receivables transaction. We have tried everything but cannot get the commission amount to push over.

Has anyone ever had this issue or know why we may be having this issue?

Sales Transaction Entry Window Too Big for One User

Hello:

Only one user is experiencing this issue, and she does not know what she did to cause it.

In GP 2016 R2, a user somehow made the Sales Transaction Entry window to be, well, too big.  The whole right-hand side of the window is grey.

This is the only window that is having this issue.

Several of us have tried resizing the window, while logged in with her GP User ID, but to no effect.

This issue occurs no matter what company she is logged into.  In fact, I believe this happens for her if she logs into the separate test environment.

What can be done to get the window to be the default size?

Thank you!
